The DeLorme Earthmate PN-60w
Cartography technology company DeLorme partnered with SPOT LLC to create a handheld GPS with satellite communication capabilities. The DeLorme Earthmate PN-60w will enable users to communicate with friends and family while beyond cell-phone range by allowing customized text messages and posting to social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, SPOTAdventures.com, and others.
“For the first time, people will be able to type custom text messages and then transmit wirelessly to the unique DeLorme SPOT Communicator for sending satellite messages around the globe,” said Caleb Mason, DeLorme’s vice president.
The user can allow information from the PN-60w, such as waypoints, to be accessed by friends and family at SPOTadventures.com. Privacy settings assure the user can control who sees the data posted. The system boasts a 32-channel GPS chipset and a dual-core processor. DeLorme also plans to provide a worldwide map, which will include high-resolution color aerial imagery. www.delorme.com ; www.findmespot.com
