Netherlands-based builder Heesen Yachts has been busy in recent months. During the fall boat show season, Frans Heesen(shown above), former owner and founder of the shipyard, was honored with three industry awards, including the International Superyacht Society’s 2009 Business Person of the Year Award. In February, the company announced the opening of a new office in Viareggio, Italy, and-perhaps in celebration-Frans Heesen himself signed a contract for a new 47-meter displacement motor yacht. It will be the eighth hull that has been constructed in their 47-meter full-displacement series. www.heesenyachts.nl

The America’s Great Loop Cruisers’ Association will hold their 2010 Spring Rendezvous and Reunion at The Grand Strand Resort at Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach this April 25 to 28. In addition to offering workshops and seminars on cruising the loop, the event is a good stop for cruisers heading north or south for the summer months, providing a chance to meet up with other cruisers, get updated condition reports, and hear stories of high-seas and ICW adventures from fellow boaters. And, for those cruisers looking to unwind, the facility features a golf course and spa. For event details and registration information, go to www.greatloop.org.

The Fifth Annual Marine Industry Career Day will take place on March 6 at the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport, Rhode Island.
