Maine boatbuilder Hinckley Yachts redefined the American runabout with the Talaria 38R. Rascal is a good example of this model, having undergone a refit in 2024 by an experienced owner to upgrade the 2008 original equipment. It’s located in North Palm Beach, Florida, and offered by Allied Marine for $1.095 million.
Among the list of items from the refit are new Volvo D6-480 engines, which, according to the brokerage team at Allied Marine, have just 162 hours on them as of spring 2026. Also on the list are new Release Marine helm chairs, an upgraded Jet Stick controller, hull paint (Awlcraft 2000 — Cream, with Silver and Flag Blue boot stripes), new Garmin electronics, new upholstery, and more.
Through the forward sliding companionway door is a cabin finished in satin-varnished cherry and varnished teak and tulip wood sole. Directly to port is a galley with a head located to starboard. Forward is the V-settee and is air-conditioned for comfort.
At the helm are the following electronics:
- (2) Garmin GPSMAP 8616 Multi-function Displays (NEW 2024)
- Garmin Reactor 40 Autopilot (NEW 2024)
- Virtual N2K Input Handler (NEW 2024)
- Garmin AIS800 (NEW 2024)
- Garmin GFL10 (NEW 2024)
- Garmin GPS Antenna 24XD-NMEA 2000 (NEW 2024)
- ICOM VHF with Command Mic
- Fusion Stereo

If we catch the viewing angle exactly right, a lovely question mark appears, described by the varnished teak caprail as it embraces the foredeck and intersects the stunning hollow formed by the flare in the topsides forward. The T29 R may be the handsomest small open boat created in the past 50 years. Automotive themes define the cockpit, as they did in the mahogany runabouts from the past century. The steering wheel and dashboard suggest the BMW Z-series roadsters, but one look at the Nardi wood-rim steering wheel placed me at the controls of the great Ferrari 250 SWB Berlinetta from the early 1960s. Even the seats bring back fond memories of that car.”
Where is Rascal located? The vessel is currently lying in North Palm Beach, Florida.
