When Sinbad‘s owners approached Delta Marine with their desire to build a megayacht, they insisted it be a “functional, usable boat that their guests would not be afraid to use, said Michelle Jones, marketing manager of the Seattle-based company.
Most megayachts end up fulfilling part of that equation, but creating a yacht that is utilitarian in the best sense of the word, yet still approachable, is a difficult task. In the case of Sinbad, Delta’s 126-footer, the mission was accomplished.
Two ways Delta achieved this were by designing Sinbad with a Quantum Zero Speed Stabilizer system and by turning aggressive attention toward damping vibration and sound. The stabilizer system uses four fins to stabilize the vessel and minimize roll while at anchorage. According to Delta, sound levels do not exceed 50 decibels in non-machinery spaces throughout Sinbad.
Duet Designs of Singapore created a minimalist interior, but not one so sparse that the spaces seem empty and uninviting. Fixtures and cabinets are inconspicuously designed to keep the interior from looking cluttered.
A pair of Cat 3508B Series diesels powers Sinbad to a top speed of 14 knots, according to the builder. Her range at 12 knots is 6,000 nautical miles.
