Inside the ISA and Lobanov Design Collaboration on Blade

The ISA Blade is a 230-foot steel-hull superyacht with a range of 5,000 nautical miles and a Lobanov-designed exterior.

The profile on the 230-foot ISA Blade is arresting. It almost appears as if there’s no way for people inside the yacht to see the outdoors. But look closer at the image below, and you’ll see glazing that includes glass panels with dotted films and a black insert positioned forward, close to the waterline. From the outside, it all looks sculptural with a distinctive graphic accent, making the yacht’s profile instantly recognizable, even in a harbor packed with other big, white boats.

That level of distinctive design is what ISA Yachts says it was aiming to achieve when it began the collaboration with Lobanov Design. The shipyard is calling Blade a new interpretation of the ISA Yachts DNA, with more models to come in the future.

Lobanov’s team incorporated a number of exterior design elements that help to set Blade apart from other yachts. There are recessed teak inserts, custom fender details and a transforming aft garage door that, when closed, becomes a wooden bench overlooking the sea. Talk about a one-of-a-kind place to enjoy sundowners with an amazing view.

Power on this steel-hull, 1,300-gross-ton design is twin MTU 12V 4000 M53L engines with a reported maximum speed of 17.5 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots. Range at cruise speed is about 5,000 nautical miles, meaning owners will be able to turn heads in more than a few marinas before they need to stop and refuel.

Strategic Collaboration

Giuseppe Palumbo, director of Palumbo Superyachts, parent company of ISA Yachts, says Blade is just the start of what the shipyard and Lobanov Design are working on. A larger ISA superyacht is already being developed.
