Victory Reborn

Nelson's HMS Victory to be raised from the depths.

It was recently announced that the 300-year old wreck of Admiral Horatio Nelson’s HMS Victory is to be raised from where it lies near the Channel Islands. The Maritime Heritage Foundation will manage the raising, and will employ the Florida-based Odyssey Marine Exploration, who discovered the wreck in 2008 by confirming the seal of King George I emblazoned on a cannon. While The Sunday Times reports that many of the guns and other artifacts recovered from the wreck will be on display in British museums, under the “finders keepers” law of salvage, Odyssey Marine will receive the bulk of any treasure found on the wreck.
