Shipyard Cup in Boothbay ME Ship Yard Cup

East Boothbay, Maine, will again play host to the annual Ship Yard Cup. The 8th annual “Big Boat” race, which features boats at least 70 feet long will be held August 27-29. Among the 9 vessels already registered only one is less than 90 feet in length. This race is one of the few sailboat race regattas of its type held around the world. The Race is expected to grow to between 12 and 15 participating vessels.

“This has been a spectacular event in the past and this year we’re trying to raise the bar,” said event coordinator Ed Roberts. “We’re striving to become the premiere big boat race.”

It’s shaping up to be a delightful weekend: There will be a lobster bake for the boat crews on Friday night, post-race cocktails and hors d’ oeuvres for all in attendance, as well as an awards ceremony Sunday afternoon.
