Octopus Snags a View

Microsoft billionaire Paul Allen has reserved a mooring at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Octopus

If you get excited about the Olympics, then you’d probably be super excited at the prospect of visiting London aboard a superyacht for the 2012 games! There are only enough berths for about 30 yachts in the vicinity of the Olympics, and most of those are for smaller boats. So anyone who gets a watery vantage point will be extremely lucky, but as usual, Paul Allen will be luckier than all of us put together. The Microsoft billionaire is said to have reserved the only mooring that can handle a really huge yacht, and he’ll need it for Octopus, the 414-foot Lürssen-built, Espen Oeino-designed superyacht that he calls … um, one of his superyachts. (Tatoosh, a mere 303 feet long, is for sale for around $169 million.) Octopus carries two helicopters and two submarines and has a swimming pool, a basketball court, a music studio and, in this case, a Gold-medal view of the Olympics.
