The IYRS Boatbuilding and Restoration School held its graduation ceremony this month in Newport, Rhode Island, with students launching the boats that they have restored while taking classes in the program.

Restored boats included a twin-cockpit, double-planked, 25-foot motor launch that was restored to her Herreshoff lines; a 20-foot Fish-Class sloop designed in 1916; an 11-foot Class B One-Design frostbite dinghy from the 1930s; and a fleet of 12-foot Beetle Cats.

IYRS says the majority of graduates already have jobs lined up at boatbuilders and marine companies from Maine to Florida. “Seek all opportunities with your eyes wide open and take advantage of every lucky break you earn,” North Sails President Ken Read told the graduates in a speech.
