While Larry Ellison is at the America's Cup, his 191-foot Ronin is leaving the shipyard.

191-foot Lurssen Ronin completes refit

The 191-foot Lurssen Ronin has just completed a refit at the shipyard in Europe.

Larry Ellison is making news from San Francisco as his vision reshapes the America’s Cup, but he’s also keeping an eye on Europe, where his 191-foot superyacht Ronin just completed an 11-month refit at the Lürssen shipyard.

Ronin, built in 1993 as Izanami for a Japanese owner, has a nearly military exterior style that remains unmatched even today. The hull was designed from patrol-boat lines so that the superyacht would be fast—topping 30 knots. British architect Sir Norman Foster has since gone on to create designs for additional yachts, as well as plans for Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic concept of near-Earth space tourism.

The just-finished refit of Ronin at Lürssen included a full repaint, new teak decking with cork underlays for noise reduction, a new audiovisual system and an overhaul of technical systems.
