2013 Fife Regatta
From June 28 through July 5, the invitation-only Fife Regatta will be held at Fairlie Clyde in Scotland. This regatta has taken place every five years since 1998, bringing together the classic designs of the three-generation Fife yacht-building family.
William Fife III is the best-known, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, who built boats starting in the early 1800s. Fife III joined the family business in 1890 and became known as one of the world’s best yacht designers, penning the plans for the America’s Cup yachts Shamrock I and_ Shamrock III_, among others.
This year’s Fife Regatta will see the yachts sailing to Loch Fyne with overnight stays at Tighnabruaich and Portavadie, with what organizers say should be “some super vantage points along the way for spectators.”
There is also an opportunity to participate in the regatta, since the 1903 Moonbeam of Fife is available for charter at the event. She is a 101-footer with two guest cabins plus crew quarters. She participated in the regattas in 1998 and 2008, as well.
