Three Coast Guardsmen were killed and one was injured when their Jayhawk helicopter crashed into the waters off of La Push, Washington, last week. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

We don’t yet know the details of why this accident happened; but we do know four guardians went out on a mission and did not all come back,” said Anne Brengle, president of the Coast Guard Foundation. The foundation announced a fundraising drive for the Family Disaster Relief Fund and The Fallen Heroes Scholarship fund to assist the fallen servicemen’s families.

The family Disaster Relief Fund provides immediate financial support to the families who are mourning the loss of a loved one killed in the line of duty while the fallen heroes scholarship provides children of the fallen with funds to help pay for college.

Banks, 33, stationed in Sitka, Alaska had a combined total of 6 children between them.“We hope others will join us in supporting these heroes’ families through this difficult time,” said Brengle.
