Faulty Hoses Sank Wayne Newton’s Yacht

Report says one drainage hose was kinked, another improperly connected.

Here’s yet another reason to do a thorough check of all your boat’s hoses before heading out onto the water this summer: Investigators say faulty drainage hoses are what sank entertainer Wayne Newton’s 65-foot motoryacht on Lake Mead.

The National Park Service has determined that two hoses in a rear stowage compartment were the culprits. One was kinked and the other was improperly connected.

Rendezvous, as Newton called the 1996 Skipperliner, sank stern-first in about 50 feet of water while tied up at a marina during autumn 2013.

Nobody was hurt, but the boat was a complete loss.
