Regular readers of Yachting are more than familiar with the work of Onne van der Wal, whose exceptional photography has graced the magazine’s pages and covers for many years. Now, the Rhode Island-based photographer is offering hands-on workshops for anyone who wants to learn firsthand how to capture boats in images deserving of any mantelpiece.

The Onne van der Wal “Workships on the Water” will take place in the Newport area, where van der Wal has a gallery. Participants will join van der Wal aboard the 55-foot touring boat Gansett, which has space for 15 photographers in addition to the instructor.

The class on June 26 will include photographing boats and scenery throughout Newport and Narragansett Bay. On August 31, participants will get to photograph the Classic Yacht Regatta, and on September 28, the subject will be the 12-Meter North American Championships.

Van der Wal’s assistant tells us that space is already limited for the class in June, so don’t wait until the last minute to pull the trigger. (Or the F-stop, as it were.)
