Nominations are now open for the 2013 Maritime Heroes Award sponsored by Old Pultaney Single Malt Scotch Whisky and U.S. Sailing.

This award recognizes people who make significant contributions to educate, volunteer, advocate or encourage participation in sailing, either within their local community or beyond. For instance, nominees might include people who have helped to train disabled sailors, introduced the sport to beginners or raised funds to support a sailing charity.

Nominations will be accepted at www.maritimeheroes.com through August 31, when the sponsors will select a set of finalists. The public can then vote for its favorite finalist on the website, and the winner will be announced in February 2014 at U.S. Sailing’s Sailing Leadership Forum in San Diego, California.
