Viking Yachts’ 48 Sport Tower is one of three models built on the New Jersey builder’s 48 hull. For owners in the market for a serious midsize sportfisherman, HMY Yacht Sales has Honu Kai, a 2017 Viking 48 ST, listed at $1.689 million.

“Whether moving up or moving down throughout the Viking fleet, you will find these new Viking 48 models true blue-water champions in spirit, performance, accommodations and evolutionary prowess in the herald Viking tradition.” Viking says

Honu Kai has a 124-square-foot teak cockpit and is set up for pursuing pelagics with a Release Marine Teak Battle Saddle, a Palm Beach Tuna Tower, 34-foot Rupp outriggers and a livewell. The cockpit mezzanine seating is a great spot to keep an eye on the spread.

Forward, the enclosed and air-conditioned bridge deck has a three-seat helm station forward. Abaft the helm, there are two L-shaped dinettes to port and starboard.

Belowdecks is inviting with hand-finished teak joinery, and amenities include a galley to port, a salon/dining area to starboard, a forepeak master stateroom, a guest stateroom and a day head that includes a shower stall. The galley has an angled L-shaped countertop, under-counter refrigeration, and a microwave/convection oven. The master stateroom has a queen-size berth with private access to the head. The starboard guest space has upper and lower berths.

Twin 1,200 hp MAN CRM diesels power Honu Kai, and should give this sportfisherman about a 35-knot speed at around 2,100 rpm. Dialing it back to 1,800 rpm, provides about a 30-knot cruise speed.

It’s also designed to slice and dice a seaway. “The raked entry and forward chine are designed to pierce through head seas and divert spray downward. Convex hull sections add curvature and form to the running surface, while molded running strakes accentuate lateral tracking and maneuverability,” Viking says.
