The Hatteras GT54 had a new warped hull form and was the first Hatteras to crack the 40-knot barrier, offering a mid-30-knot cruise speed.

Notable features: The GT54 had an infused, solid-fiberglass hull, also a first for Hatteras. Twin C18 Cats were the standard motors, with optional C30s and C32s. Prop pockets reduced draft to 4 feet 2 inches. Her cockpit had 149 square feet of fish-fighting space.

Belowdecks: The standard layout was three staterooms and two heads, with an amidships master to port. The forepeak had a standard queen or optional V-berth.

From the Archives

“With 4- to 6-foot swells and a 2-foot chop, slight movement of the wheel set her firmly into the wave pattern. Her convex hull has a sharp entry and widens to near flat at the transom. Two running strakes provide lift, and double chines forward … deflect spray.” — Yachting, July 2003
