Boy do we wish we were still teenagers: The tall ship Oliver Hazard Perry is offering weeklong summer camps for children 13 to 18 years old during July and August out of Newport, Rhode Island.

Students will get to take the helm of the 500-ton ship, hoist and brace the yards on her 130-foot sail rig and guide her on a voyage from Newport to Nantucket, Boston, Portsmouth and Greenport using seamanship and navigation skills.

The ship will carry 15 professional crew with capacity for as many as 34 students each session. Kids from any state or country may apply for a spot.

Think of the fun — not to mention the line on a college application essay that reads, “I helmed the largest civilian sail training vessel in America.”

Cost is $1,600 per session, including all meals. There’s a 10-percent discount for kids who enroll before January 31. Learn more at www.ohpri.org.
