The team at Brabus has a mission. They call it the one-second wow. The idea is that the very first second you see one of the German company’s supercar, motorcycle or yacht designs, you are immediately fascinated and aware that you are in the presence of a Brabus.
That philosophy underpins the Brabus Ultima 55, which marks the company’s first collaboration with Sunreef, and its first attempt at a luxury catamaran. The Brabus Ultima 55 powers onto the scene with a carbon-fiber exterior, foiling that reduces drag, a bespoke leather interior and more.
The powercat is offered with two layouts. The standard configuration has a master stateroom, a VIP and one crew cabin. Or, owners can choose three guest staterooms and one crew cabin. Either way, the accommodations plan is wrapped inside a package that’s finished in Graphite Black or Phantom Gray. Design elements include exposed-carbon front and rear wings, pillars with illuminated Brabus logos, and ventilation trims positioned on the port and starboard sides. Exposed carbon-fiber LED roof lights are intended to set the mood as much as provide illumination, and custom exterior upholstery is available in Brabus Graphite, Brabus Red or Brabus Pearl.
Sunreef brings its expertise to the package too, with foldout platforms on the aft deck that expand the dance space from about 18 feet to nearly 25 feet wide. The deck is finished with Esthec instead of teak for durability and lower maintenance, and the sunpads fold into settees for sundowners with a view. A carbon-fiber table extends for dining, and there’s an electric grill and wet bar. At the bow, another sunpad awaits with more privacy, separate from the social and entertainment spaces at the stern.
And of course, there’s the power package. The Brabus Ultima 55 has twin diesel Volvo Penta D11-IPS950s with 725 horsepower each for a reported top hop over 40 knots. A hydrofoil system generates lift beneath the surface, raising the hulls higher above the water to reduce drag and virtually eliminate heel.
Both literally and figuratively, this yacht looks like a seriously smooth ride.
