Hard Times, a 1998 Westport 98, has had multiple upgrades between 2019 and 2025 including new engines in 2020, an extensive refit in 2021 and new Garmin electronics in 2024. It’s currently on the market with Worth Avenue Yacht Sales for $2.395 million.

The vessel is powered by twin MTU engines with a combined 2,700 hp that can quickly spool it up to a cruising speed of 17 knots and a top speed of 24 knots. A fuel capacity of 4,500 gallons gives it good range at cruising speeds.

Yachting previously reported, “Just as the classically inspired house is a home, the 98 looks the way a modern yacht should. She was not inspired by a mud hut, pyramid or geodesic form. She was sculpted by designer Greg Marshall, whose modern eye clearly has a respect for the past. Her silhouette has familiar proportions but a softer, more rakish look than what came before”.

The cockpit area aboard Hard Times is partially shaded by the flybridge and a very functional space, making it a prime spot for fishing, lounging, launching water toys and dining. With a non-skid teak sole and a wide beam, there’s plenty of room for freestanding furniture on the lower aft deck. The cockpit flows smoothly into the salon, a good location for social gatherings,  where guests can relax on a L-shaped sofa with a marble cocktail table. Enjoy a formal dinner or alfresco-style dining in the cockpit or on the flybridge.

The galley is equipped with upgraded galley appliances including:

  • Viking 6-burner induction stove top (new 2023)
  • Viking oven
  • Viking dishwasher
  • Jennair 48-inch refrigerator/freezer (new 2024)
  • Viking convection microwave
  • Stainless steel sink with fixture
  • Manitowoc icemaker (new 2022)
  • 24-bottle wine cooler

Guests who enjoy a little fun in the sun can improve their tans on the loungers on the flybridge or adjustable loungers on the foredeck if you are seeking a little privacy away from the crowd.

The brokers at Worth Avenue Yacht Sales report: “This is an exceptionally clean 98-foot cockpit motor yacht that has been extensively updated. Hard Times offers a widebody salon, raised pilothouse, country galley and a shallow draft for cruising the East Coast and the Bahamas. A flybridge hardtop was added in 2019 and the engines were replaced with new MTU engines in 2020. She has new A/V and navionics, and the entire boat was painted in 2019 from top to bottom”.

After a long day in the sun and evening cocktails, owners and guests can retire to one of three staterooms for a good night’s sleep. The full-beam master stateroom has a king berth with an ensuite head and plenty of stowage. The VIP stateroom sleeps three with a queen berth plus a concealed wall Pullman and ensuite head. The guest stateroom features twin side-by-side berths with stowage drawers and a cedar-lined hanging locker. Two crew cabins are also available for additional guests when a crew is not aboard, which might make a great spot for teenagers seeking their own privacy.
