Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

Are you hyperventilating at the thought of plunging head-first into this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show?

It’s fall boat show season, and our editors here at Yachting are fanning out across the United States and around the world to get the scoop on all the latest news and launches. As we walk the docks, we’re seeing telltale signs of folks who are just a little bit too much like us — boat show junkies to the core.

If any of the following symptoms sound familiar to you, then our suggestion is to seek help immediately by calling your broker.

Er, sorry, we mean your doctor…

Symptom One: When your alarm clock goes off in the morning, you don’t ask what time it is. You instead ask which new yacht is making her debut today.

Symptom Two: You catch yourself thinking about how good you’ve been all year and how deserving you are of a gift at the holidays, and then you hear yourself humming “The 12 Days of Christmas” while substituting “a Hinckley in a new slip” for “a partridge in a pear tree.”

Symptom Three: You wear running sneakers while strolling the docks, just in case a last-minute press conference breaks out about new IPS drives.

Symptom Four: There is no longer any chart plotter mode, function or display that can stump you at any helm.

Symptom Five: Despite attending a half-dozen shows this fall, you’re already booking flights to the 2014 boat shows, starting with New York on January 1.
