Herreshoff 12 1/2
In July, the staff at Artisan Boatworks in Rockport, Maine began work on a replica of the Herreshoff 12 1/2. The replica was recently launched, and is thought be the first one made since 1943. The boat will be on display at the Maine Boatbuilders Show in March.
The project began when Artisan Boatworks owner Alec Brainerd discovered a set of original Herreshoff offsets. He then worked with Steve Nagy of the Herreshoff Registry to assemble a database of measurements from existing 12 1/2s. The build got underway after Brainerd paid visits to the Herreshoff Marine Museum and Mystic Seaport, and got help from Halsey Herreshoff and Adam Langerman of Herreshoff designs.
