Meet the Frauscher 1017 GT

The Austrian-built Frauscher 1017 GT arrives on the scene with speed for days and style for weeks.

I recently got on board the Frauscher 1017 GT in Miami, where her stepped hull, twin 430 hp Mercury sterndrives and gracefully restrained lines put on quite a show. After a rollicking sea trial, we pulled up to trendy waterside eatery Seaspice, and the boat made such a fitting ornament, the manager didn’t even charge us dockage.

WHOM IT’S FOR: The boater who appreciates serious performance and classic style but wants something just a touch, just an ever-so-slight touch, different.

PICTURE THIS: You’re screaming across a lake-flat Biscayne Bay at 50 knots — so fast your cheeks billow out like a feeding whale’s if the wind catches them right. You glance to starboard at a mansion so large, it could rightfully be called a compound. There is a beach-blonde statue of a woman working out with a trainer on the home’s back deck. A massive German shepherd keeps stoic watch behind her. You wave. She smiles and waves in return, and as she does, you realize it’s Anna Kournikova. Of course, she might have just been being polite — or maybe she liked your taste in boats. (Psst. This is a real thing that happened.)
