Ocea Yacht, a French shipyard known for building military vessels and aluminum yachts, has formed MC Yacht & Co. International to build and service megayachts. As its first project, Ocea teamed with longtime designer Fulvio De Simoni, who is best known for designing Pershing and Wider models. Together, Ocea and De Simoni have announced the Nemo 44, which they are calling a sport-utility yacht able to cruise the planet’s rugged regions.

The Nemo 44 will be all-aluminum with a deep keel, vertical bow and relatively narrow beam, all of which combine to keep the 144-foot design’s weight beneath 500 gross tons while achieving a 16-knot top speed with a total horsepower of 2,800 mhp. Her cruise speed is expected be about 12 knots.

Conceptually, the Nemo 44 is intended to be a floating resort with larger guest spaces than other yachts in her size range, along with more stowage for water toys. She will accommodate 10 guests in five staterooms (including an 800-square-foot master suite), plus eight crew in five additional cabins. Her garage will hold a 24½-foot tender, and her half-deck can carry an additional sportfishing boat, catamaran or sailing tender.

Superyacht-style amenities will include a 269-square-foot beach club, a swimming pool, a gymnasium and a hot tub. Owners also will have the ability to customize the décor in line with the options that superyacht owners enjoy, according to the builder.

“We are capable of offering her future owner the chance to fully customize his yacht, still exploiting important economies of scale,” Francesco Merenda, general manager of MC Yacht & Co., stated in a press release. “We are ready to go into production.”

More Nemo designs are coming: MC Yacht & Co. plans to release them in the next few months.
