Legacy Harbour Marina Reopens After Hurricane Ian

Three years later, a $15 million rebuild returns 131 slips and a full-service waterfront to Fort Myers, Florida.

The reports were devastating after Hurricane Ian hit Florida’s west coast in 2022. “My home marina—Legacy Harbour Marina—is gone,” one boater wrote online, describing his beloved 42-foot Grand Banks as being somewhere in a pile of boats pushed up in a corner. News media used the words “demolished” and “ripped apart.” One station reported that hundreds of pieces of debris were floating in the water.

It has taken years to rebuild, with the devastated waterfront community especially keen to see the marina business come back. Now, it’s finally happening: In May, Legacy Harbour Marina reopened following a $15 million redevelopment of the 13-acre site.

“This marina has long served as a homeport for boaters traveling Florida’s west coast,” said Rick Budd, CEO of AIRN Management. “The May 2026 reopening represents a significant reinvestment in Fort Myers’ waterfront and a long-term commitment to the local boating community.”

The rebuilt facility includes the marina, harbormaster building and on-site amenities for boaters, with 131 slips ranging from 40 to 150 feet.

The new dock system is built with Bellingham Marine’s Unifloat concrete wave attenuation system, supported by 70-foot steel piles. Interior slips have aluminum frame dock systems with synthetic decking engineered for durability. The new slips have potable water, in-slip pump-out, fire suppression, fiberglass dock boxes, and single- and three-phase power.

And yes, transient slips will be available, with capacity determined by annual and monthly occupancy.

Fort Myers River District

Legacy Harbour Marina is within walking distance of the Fort Myers River District, which has restaurants that mix and match global cuisines with the local Florida favorites. Bars, shopping and live music can also be found here, along with hotels for cruisers who want to spend a night or two off the boat. There’s a weekly farmers’ market, too, for stocking up on provisions.
