Ahem. Did You Say 58 Knots?

The Otam 80 Millennium Open is being designed for wicked speed in a sporty package.

Multiple power packages are being tweaked for the Otam 80 Millennium Open.

The Italian builder Otam is working on power options for its new 80 Millennium Open design, and predictions are that the sporty yacht will hit top speeds of 55 to 58 knots.

You read that correctly. Options for power plants are going to include twin 2,600-hp MTUs paired to Arneson surface drives, a quadruple set of 1,620-hp MTU 10V 2000s matched to Trimax drives and a quadruple set of 1,724-hp Caterpillar C32 Acerts paired to Trimax drives. So far the top speed is 55 knots (with the quad Cats) but Otam says it’s still testing propeller options and hopes to reach 58 knots overall.

Wow.

The Otam 80 Millennium Open design is an evolution of the builder’s 80 Hard Top, reconfigured with an eye toward current trends in “sporty open megayachts” and superyacht chase boats. Speed was a main characteristic that Otam wanted to feature, which is why a protective windscreen wraps around both sides of the cockpit and extends to the carbon air intakes that have the look of racy automobile elements. A roll bar further emphasizes that vibe and comes in speed-sexy colors including racing blue, maranello red, titanium, black and gold-grey (or the custom color of your choice).

Inside, the 80 Millennium Open is available in three- or four-stateroom configurations.
