Benetti Yachts in Italy has launched the 203-foot custom build FB283, whose construction began during the pandemic lockdowns in 2020.
The FB283 is a fully custom yacht with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure. Exteriors and interiors are by Giorgio Cassetta. Hull lines are by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. The project manager is Nicola Nicolai of Nicolai Yacht Consulting & Project Management.
The design brief called for speed, silence, long range and “guaranteed fun for the family.” Benetti built the yacht on a fast-displacement hull form, with a projected top speed of 21 knots.
Design details include uninterrupted windows that span nearly 20 feet on the main and upper decks. The garage has a side door for loading and offloading a 33-foot tender, personal watercraft and a smaller tender. The yacht also has a touch-and-go helipad.
How did Benetti handle this yacht’s design process during the pandemic lockdown? The yard used 3D technology and video calls to communicate with the yacht’s owner.
