Little Harbor Custom Yachts generally introduces a new WhisperJet model with a shout. This time, the company whispered. Hulls No. 1 and No. 2 are sold and launched; four more are under contract. The 34 is a perfect size for a casual day boat/weekender, the sort of getaway boat a couple would use to hop from hotel to hotel along the coast. Powered by a pair of fuel efficient 350 hp Yanmar diesels spinning Hamilton 273 waterjets, this handsome little boat has a top speed of 37 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of 30. Range is generous thanks to her 300-gallon fuel capacity. She rides on a Hunt deep-V hull form, which takes much of the lumpiness out of big seas, but I wouldn’t want to try a 30-knot cruise in seas bigger than 3′ or 4′. You, the crew and the boat will be happier if you throttle back to about 20 knots.
The 34’s size, though, doesn’t keep her from being well-equipped. She has an enclosed head, comfy settees, a large galley and cozy V-berth. Also like the larger models, the 34 has an L-shape settee opposite the helm. The cockpit measures 6′ by 12.5′, leaving enough area for the optional stern seat. JetStick control is standard. It allows the helmsman one-lever control of the waterjet steering and bow thruster. The styling reminds us of the New England bass boats once so popular around Cape Cod and the islands nearby. It’s conservative and timeless.
