Spring Has Sprung

It’s time to get back on the water — here are some events that will help.

Spring Has Sprung

The Anacortes Spring Boat Show is taking place this weekend, March 18-20, in Anacortes, Washington. Over 70 boats will be lining the docks of the Cap Sante Marina for this completely free event. Put on by a cooperative of Anacortes yacht brokers and dealers, the weekend show is a great place to go to look at boats and talk shop with industry veterans. www.anacortesboatshow.com

The Palm Beach International Boat show will take place March 24-27. One of the top ten boat shows in the country, the Palm Beach show will feature more that $350 million worth of yachts from all over the world and an on-shore collection of gear and gadgets for the avid yachtsman. www.showmanagement.com

On leave from Philadelphia’s Independence Seaport Museum, Skin and Bones, an exhibit tracing the history of sailors and tattoos, will be opening up at the Mystic Seaport Museum on March 19. The exhibit presents over two centuries of tattoo history with art, photographs and other artifacts that tell the story of how tattoos came into the sailor’s life and what they meant to men of the sea. (One interesting point, the red star logo of the Macy department stores is thought to have been inspired by a tattoo that company founder R.H. Macy got while on a whaling voyage in the South Pacific.) www.mysticseaport.com
