Simrad’s new MX535B is a collision avoidance system that uses real-time data to provide an instant overview of marine traffic. It’s an IMO type-approved, Class A AIS transponder solution that shows everything from the maneuvers of nearby boats to the position of AIS-enabled vessels in radar blind zones.

“Our new Simrad MX535B AIS transponder provides a simple solution for the incredible complexity of safe on-the-water navigation,” Navico CEO Leif Ottosson stated in a press release. “The system has been designed by a team with over 20 years in IMO-approved product development and achieves our goal to provide mariners with a feature-packed, scalable, cost-effective AIS system for enhanced safety at sea.”

The MX535B can be paired with the Simrad MX510 and AN156 GPS antenna to provide Class A AIS capabilities. If you integrate it with the Simrad MX510 or MX512 displays, then you will have spontaneous ship-to-ship or ship-to-shore information.

It has eight NMEA 0183 serial ports for networking the AIS system with the Simrad MX510 multiport display, a separate junction box and an AN156 antenna. Those serial ports also can connect to onboard systems such as radar or the Simrad MX521A DGPS Smart Antenna for DGPS navigation.
