SafetyHub 250

Blue Sea Systems has developed a power-distribution system, laudable for its simplicity and safety features. The SafetyHub 250 ($200) is a primary fuse block with a remote battery switch, which is ignition-protected and allows the skipper to shut down battery circuits at the panel, or from a remote location such as the helm. Three of the seven circuits take MIDI/AMI fuses for applications of up to 200 amps, such as an engine, main-panel feed, or windlass; these are the circuits that can be shut down from the remote panel, if, for instance, you were to smell smoke. The other four are 24-hour circuits, delivering power, for example, to a bilge pump, clock memory, fume detector, and security alarm. Because it is ignition-protected, the panel can be installed in the same space as a gasoline engine or fuel tanks. Blue Sea Systems, (360) 738-8230; www.bluesea.com
