FLIR Systems has taken the wraps off its Raymarine Magnum High-Performance Radar. It’s an open-array radar with some technologies that the U.S. Coast Guard uses.
According to the manufacturer, the Magnum has “superior” bird mode and beam-sharpening technology. It enhances target tracking and image detail.
The Raymarine Magnum is available in 4 kW or 12 kW power outputs, with 4- or 6-foot antenna arrays. The maximum target identification range is 96 nautical miles for 12 kW models, and 72 nautical miles for 4 kW models.
Bird mode lets captains spot flying flocks as far as 10 nautical miles away, and the beam-sharpening technology is designed to deliver better than 1-degree bearing resolution for target separation and coastal detail.
When will Raymarine’s Magnum be available? During the second quarter of 2018. Retail price is expected to start at $4,699.
