If a helm’s real estate is limited, a chart plotter/fish finder combo makes sense. Furuno’s GP1670F and GP1870F combination chart plotters/fish finders are compact and durable, and they offer all-in-one color LCD imagery. The GP1670F ($1,195) offers a 5.7-inch screen while the GP1870F ($1,495) offers a 7-inch screen. Both units are sunglasses-friendly, offer wide viewing angles and play nicely with Jeppesen’s C-Map 4D cartography. They also use internal antennas — simplifying installation — as well as user-friendly RotoKey interfaces that allow for a finely stepped zoom control and access to the unit’s controls. As for stalking fish, each unit is equipped with a 600-watt/1 kW Furuno fish finder. These dual-frequency 50/200 kHz finders offer some of Furuno’s latest features, including Bottom Discrimination (with appropriate transducer) and Accu-Fish.
