Off to the Races: An Inside Look at the Palm Beach GT50

Palm Beach Motoryachts ups its speed game with its GT50.

The Goal: performance.

Palm Beach Motoryachts has always been known for building sleekly styled cruisers with Downeast-inspired lines that are constructed with top-notch materials and possess superior seakeeping abilities, but with its GT50, the builder adds serious speed to the list.

Powered with twin 600 hp Volvo Penta IPS800s, the Palm Beach GT50 topped out at 42 knots on its initial sea trials, and cruised effortlessly at 35 knots. At cruise speed, those motors burned only 40 gallons per hour.

The yacht’s speed and efficiency can be traced back to a hull form with low hydrodynamic drag and to a build process that ensures a lightweight yet stout vessel.

The GT50 has a fully infused carbon-fiber deck and superstructure, helping lower the vessel’s center of gravity, in turn creating a seakindly ride. Its hull is infused vinylester cored E-glass.

It’s noted for its speed, but the Palm Beach GT50 maintains its siblings’ luxurious appointments with interior wood options such as wenge, teak or ash. It also has an entertainment-friendly cockpit layout with two L-shaped settees. Two more settees are on the bridge deck, so everyone has a seat underway.
