Capt. Mats Bengtsson was looking at the points that his command, the 280-foot Oceanco Vibrant Curiosity, had racked up through the IGY Marinas Anchor Club loyalty program. It’s a big boat, and the points were adding up fast.

The yacht had been docking at an IGY marina since January 2012, and because of Vibrant Curiosity’s LOA, the points had amassed to the equivalent of 40 nights’ free dockage.

“We discussed what we should do with the accumulated points, and Capt. Jeff, my reliever, suggested we donate them to charity,” Bengtsson stated in a press release.

The yacht’s owner agreed to donate to YachtAid Global, which coordinates the delivery of supplies and assistance to remote areas in need worldwide. The group will use the points to help get yachts to wherever assistance is necessary, using IGY’s network of 13 marinas in the Americas, Caribbean and Pacific.
