The 131-foot Rainbow JH2 may look like a classic, but she's actually a 2012 build from Holland Jachtbouw, which based her design on the classic J-Class yacht Rainbow. Judges at the recent World Superyacht Awards took notice, naming Rainbow JH2 the best sailing yacht of the year in her size range.

"It has been almost 80 years since the iconic J-Class and America's Cup winner of 1934, Rainbow, first sailed," said William Bishop of Yachting Partners International, which markets_ Rainbow JH2_ for sale and for charter. "So it is a fitting tribute that her cutting-edge replica, one of the most eagerly awaited yachts of last year and one of the most technologically advanced, now picks up the award for best sailing yacht in her category."

Other contenders for the award included a modern classic design, two fast cruising yachts, a motorsailer and a performance-oriented sailing yacht. Rainbow JH2 was chosen not only for her classic beauty, but also for the technological advancements that are built into her.

Dykstra & Partners handled naval architecture, working to optimize the original designs by William Starling Burgess. Rainbow JH2 is among the first J-Class yachts to have a complete hybrid propulsion and power system, which both reduces sound and saves fuel costs by as much as 30 percent. "She can sail under way in silent operation and has ample hydraulic power in racing mode," Bishop says.

At the same time,_ Rainbow JH2_ has an interior filled with mahogany, creating an ambiance for charter guests who want to feel like they are experiencing the Golden Age of Yachting. There are three guest cabins onboard: a master plus two guest cabins with twin beds. The weekly base rate for charter is €60,000.
