Intermarine S.p.A.Mega 445 Balaju

Intermarine S.p.A.’s Mega 445, a 147-foot trideck motoryacht, had already left the Sarzana, Italy, building facility and was days from delivery when I caught up with her. Designed on spec, the yacht meets American Bureau of Shipping standards and is in compliance with MCA requirements. Balaju is the first of a series and is equipped with Caterpillar 3508 engines and Northern Lights 125kW generators, but future builds can accommodate other options.

As would be expected of a spec design, the arrangement is fairly standard, with four guest staterooms and four crew cabins belowdecks and a master suite forward on the main deck. Balaju is not without surprises, however, found in an array of custom touches and outfitting.

A drop window separates the saloon and dining area, allowing formal or relaxed gatherings. Belowdecks, a passageway connects the crew area with the guest foyer for servicing the staterooms. Topside, the upper deck, without a helm but with a whirlpool spa, is devoted to guest relaxation. Four large umbrellas are fitted in lieu of a bimini, and sunshades shield outboard areas.

Intermarine is the former parent company of the American yacht builder that shares the name, but the two have been separate entities for several years. The Italian yard builds a variety of vessels in advanced composites, and during my visit the new Wally Power yacht and several 75-knot Buzzi-designed Italian Customs Service patrol boats were under construction. -Dudley Dawson
