Imagine Herreshoff at the Helm

The replica racing classic Elena is available for regatta charters this summer.

The replica charter yacht Elena is available for racing and regattas.

Nathanael Herreshoff is a legend in yacht design, having penned Vigilant, Defender, Columbia, Reliance and Resolute — yachts whose names are forever entwined with America’s Cup history thanks to their stellar performances in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The 1928 yacht Elena was Herreshoff’s design too, and she was the basis for a 180-foot recreation that launched in 2009 and received a new boom, sail plan and bowsprit in 2012.

The new Elena has been turning heads on the regatta circuit ever since she splashed, and this summer, YCO says the owner is offering her for charter at Les Voiles d’Antibes, Cannes and St. Tropez.

She’s a serious competitor, to be sure. While her lines are classic, her navigation and communications equipment are fully modern, and she’s already taken trophies on both sides of the Atlantic, including at Monaco Classic Week, with 30-plus crew pushing the limits of her sail plan.

Elena accommodates 12 overnight guests with eight overnight crew. Her lowest weekly base rate for traditional charters is €80,000 (about $109,000). Additional fees apply for regatta charters. Visit www.y.co to learn more.
