Heesen’s Project Castor Taking Shape

Heesen Yachts in the Netherlands has joined the hull and superstructure on the 180-foot Project Castor.

She is the fourth yacht in the builder’s 55-meter Steel series, which has exterior design by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects. Interiors are by Bannenberg & Rowell. The yacht has Van Oossanen’s fast displacement hull form.

Project Castor is the largest 180-footer by volume that’s under construction right now in the Netherlands, according to Heesen. Features will include a full-beam sky lounge, a 785-square-foot master stateroom, and a VIP stateroom on the bridge deck.

Let’s talk performance: Project Castor will have twin 1,350-horsepower MTU 8V 4000 M63 engines that push her to a top speed of 15.5 knots. At her cruise speed of 13 knots, range is expected to be 4,500 nautical miles, enough for transatlantic crossings.
