Happy Days at Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show

This year’s show was busy — and some lucky people went home with new boats!

The Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show is America’s biggest and this year both attendance and boat sales were up. According to Show Management, which owns the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show, the five-day show saw big bumps in attendance, especially over the first three days. The overall increase in attendance was reported to be 5- to 6-percent higher than last year, with Saturday’s traffic up a whopping 23-percent.

The best news was that people weren’t just looking — they were buying, too. Grand Banks, San Juan, Heesen, Riviera, Maritimo and Prestige were just some of the builders that made deals at the boat show, which seems to indicate some confidence in a recovering economy.

The big star of the show was Cakewalk, the largest yacht (by volume) ever built in the United States. The 281-foot yacht came from the Derecktor yard in Bridgeport, Connecticut. www.derecktor.com
