As if the YACHTING Magazine Brokerage Boat Show and the Newport International Boat Show weren't enough to draw yachtsmen to this city by the sea, the America's Cup 12 Metre Era Reunion will take place at the same time (September 16 – 19). Hosted at the New York Yacht Club's Harbor Court, the reunion events will include parties, panel discussions, a friendly regatta in the harbor with Newport's 12 Metre fleet, and viewing of the 12 Metre North American Championships (September 15 – 17). Also on hand from the America's Cup 12 Metre Era Reunion will be a veritable who's-who of the yachting world: Ted Turner, William Ficker, Buddy Melges, Ted Hood, Halsey Herreshoff, Alan Bond and Gary Jobson — just to name a few. For more information, go to 12mrclass.com.

This weekend (September 3 – 5) in Newport, the Museum of Yachting will host the 31st Annual Classic Yacht Regatta, turning the waters of Narragansett Bay into a floating maritime museum. Racing will take place on Saturday and Sunday, when spectators can see these majestic vessels under full sail. For those who can't get out on the water to watch the event, Sunday morning starting at 10:30 am the Classic Yacht Parade will take place, where the vessels participating in the regatta, along with other classical beauties that call Newport harbor home – including classic motoryachts — will parade around the harbor. (For a good view of the parade head to King's Beach, located off Wellington Avenue). For more information on the event visit moy.org.

Beginning September 10 and running through the weekend, the Eighth Annual Newport Bucket Regatta will be held off Newport's shores. The race is an invitational regatta open to sailing vessels over 90 feet in length, and usually draws some of the most impressive sailboats in the world. Head to the lawn at Castle Hill to grab a cocktail and get a glimpse of these vessels as they head out of the harbor. For more information on the event, visit bucketregattas.com.
