Happenings

The Yachting calendar is packed with upcoming events.

The Monique Burr Foundation for Children will host the 22nd Annual El Pescado Billfish Tournament this September 30 – October 2 at the Camachee Cove Marina in St. Augustine, Florida. With more than $100,000 in cash prizes available, all proceeds from the event will go to the Foundation's goal of protecting children throughout Northern Florida and the Tampa Bay area by raising awareness of child abuse. The event will also feature the Fish-N-Chips Marina Casino event on Saturday, October 2, which will include casino-style games and shopping at the "Ladies Tackle Box." The early entry fee for the tournament is $2,250 per boat, $900 for entry into the outboard division. After September 1, the cost is $2,450 per boat, $1,000 for the outboard division. Island Global Yachting will open their newest development, Marina Santa Marta, on September 1. But you can get a sneak peak during their Fiesta Del Mar (July 29 – 31), a South American style celebration with a preview of the marina and a mini boat show. Located in a soft-sand, sheltered bay in Santa Marta, Colombia, Marina Santa Marta will feature 256 berths for vessels from 25- to 132-feet in length, with a maximum draft of 11 feet and a maximum beam of 29 feet. With an in-house port authority, customs and immigration stations, along with amenities like vessel pump-out, fuel, WiFi, electricity and water, IGY hopes that the marina will become a popular destination for sportfishermen and other cruisers in the area. www.igymarinas.com

For cruisers who are fans of the links, The Baker's Bay Golf & Ocean Club, situated on the northern end of Great Guana Cay in the Abaco Islands, has recently completed construction of their new Tom Fazio-designed golf course. Also located at the resort is Baker's Bay Marina Village, a 200 slip, full service marina that can take vessels up to 250 feet in length and can accommodate a 12-foot, six-inch draft at mean low tide.
