It’s not as though you ever need an excuse to go to Basil’s, the legendary open-air, thatched bar on Mustique’s shores. I mean-hot sun, cool breezes, warm nights with starry skies, great drinks, good food, and interesting companionship: It’s all part of Basil’s scene, every day of the year. But the annual Blues Festival does give you an extra special reason, if you’re looking for one. Now in its 15th year, Basil’s Mustique Blues festival features a stellar roster of jazz and blues greats who fly in to the island to give rollicking performances that raise money for the school children of St. Vincent. This year’s festival will take place January 27 to February 10, 2010 and will feature Grammy-award winner Joe Louis Walker, Ian Siegel, Dana Gillespie, Dino Baptiste, Julien Brunetaud, Hans Theessink, and the London Blues Band (Alain Baudry, Enrico Morena, Mike Paice, Jeff Walker, and Jake Zaitz). Performances are free to island guests so nab a room at the Cotton House www.cottonhouse.net, if you can, and stay awhile. If you can’t make it down, CDs will be available online at www.basilsmustique.com, and don’t forget, they benefit a great cause!
