Heesen Yachts has just launched the 213-foot Galactica Star, which features an all-aluminum, fast-displacement hull form with a top speed of 27 knots.

Galactica Star is now undergoing sea trials in the North Sea and is on schedule for delivery to her owner in June.

The design was shown for the first time at the 2010 Monaco Yacht Show, and Heesen signed a contract to build Hull No. 1 just a month later, in October 2010. The keel was laid in February 2011 at the Heesen facility in Oss, Netherlands.

Van Oassanen Naval Architects created a hydrodynamic design that Heesen says is 30-percent more efficient than a round-bilge motoryacht. Galactica Star has a hybrid hull form that results in a low wave profile across the yacht’s speed range. Driven by a pair of MTU 20V4000M93L engines developing 2,100 rpm apiece, Galactica Star is both faster than other yachts her size and more eco-friendly because she produces fewer carbon emissions.

Frank Laupman at Omega Architects penned the exterior lines for Galactica Star, while Bannenberg and Rowell Design was tapped for interior décor.
