Daring Rescue of Sailor and His Cat Filmed by U.S. Coast Guard

Nearby oil drilling support ship rescued the sailor in distress.

After his sailboat was battered by high winds and seas 400 miles south of Cold Bay, Alaska, a French sailor was forced to activate his emergency location beacon. The U.S. Coast Guard dispatched a C-130 airplane to determine what type of aid needed to be rendered. Ultimately, they called on a nearby oil drilling ship, the Polar Pioneer, to assist. The Polar Pioneer sent one of its support vessels, the Tor Viking to rescue the sailor and his cat.
