Johnson Yachts has started construction on Hull No. 1 of the Johnson 70, whose design was unveiled at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in November.

The Johnson 70 has exteriors by Dixon Yacht Design and interiors by Design Unlimited. The model is intended for owner-operators, who can choose a three- or four-stateroom layout, as well as enclosed sky lounge or fishing cockpit versions.

“With our proven engineering, we have the flexibility to accommodate their needs, and can work with each owner to create a unique Johnson 70,” Andy Huang, president of Johnson Yachts, stated in a press release.

The main deck has a galley forward that can be outfitted with wine chillers, extra pantry space for long-range cruising, or other customizations. Stairs to the flybridge are from the cockpit; up top, owners can choose lounge space, a davit and chocks for a tender, a grilling space or other options. In the yacht’s enclosed sky lounge version, there’s a centerline helm.

Accommodations are belowdecks. They include a full-beam amidships master stateroom with a king-size berth, and a VIP stateroom in the bow with a queen-size island berth. In the three-stateroom layout, the guest stateroom is ensuite to starboard; in the four-stateroom layout, the two additional staterooms share a head.

Are there crew quarters? Yes, abaft the engine room, with room for two crew who have their own head.
