Big Boat Racing Returns to Maine

(EAST BOOTHBAY, MAINE – USA) The staging of the 2011 Shipyard Cup 12-14 August is on schedule. The “Big Boat Racing” is back in Maine. This will be the 9th running of this impressive annual superyachts race regattas with some of the world’s most spectacular sailing yachts participating in this “Corinthian spirit” style competition. Names as Windcrest (98’), Aschanti IV (115’), Bella Pita (75’), Available (65’), Tenacious (114’) and the ancient Whitehawk (92’). With a passion for the true amateur sport, a respect for the grandeur of big boat competition and the unmatched beauty and grace of the coast of Maine, the Shipyard Cup is a participant and spectators dream come true. Few events celebrate the authentic majesty of yachting’s heritage and future like the Shipyard Cup. This 2011 the Shipyard Cup will again be open to sailing vessels 21 metres / 70 feet and above from around the world with typical entrants averaging 100 feet and over. The cup will again be run under Bucket Protocol rating rules. Race applications and other details will be emailed to those that pre-register and those that participated last year. The event will begin mid-day Friday the 12th, include Saturday and Sunday racing, a Maine lobster cake and claim chowder parties, lots of other festivities with award ceremonies Sunday afternoon the 14th. In addition to attracting hundreds of spectators during their vacations, the event has the promise of being the highlight of the season for owners and crew alike.
