Benetti to Repair Fire-Damaged Yacht

The 183-footer was in final production stages when flames left her listing and sinking.

Benetti Yachts plans to haul out, repair and complete construction on a 183-foot superyacht called project FB261, which caught fire in her berth at the Livorno, Italy, shipyard on August 20.

There are three suspected causes of the fire: a lightning storm, the fact that electrical protection equipment had not yet been activated on the new build and the fact that nobody was onboard at the time the fire alarms activated.

The lightning storm had been severe in the region during the early hours of August 20, and the fire began around 7 a.m. According to Benetti, the fire was extinguished by 5 p.m. with help from the local fire department in Livorno.
