Benetti Debuts Skyler

Benetti recently presented the 125-foot Skyler mega yacht to the world, and the vessel, part of company’s Fast line, did not fail to impress.

The yacht is the third launch in the Fast range to be powered by the technologically advanced AZP C65 propulsion system produced by Rolls-Royce. That system is linked to burly 2,450 hp MTU 16V 2000M96L diesels. The AZP C65 (also known as the Azipull Carbon 65) is a high-performance, lightweight thruster that is made out of carbon fiber. The system is easily maintained and helps the engines operate more efficiently. It also aids with vessel layout and allows the boat to be nimble both while at speed and docking. A joystick on the bridge further helps make this boat a relative cinch — for a mega yacht — to get into her slip. Skyler also has “stay on spot” technology that lets her hold her position using GPS.

The AZP C65 system also gives the yacht a quiet ride. Because of the thrusters’ light weight, the engine room is placed farther aft, which reduces vibration in the guest cabins. Partially due to this noise reduction, the boat earned RINA Comfort Class classification.

The yacht’s D2P_Displacement to Planing hullform with a wave-piercing bow can move the yacht at — you guessed it — both displacement and planing speeds. Maximum speed when planing is a highly respectable 22 knots. Benetti says that the boat’s sprightliness is also in large part due to its carbon fiber superstructure, which cuts down on the yacht’s displacement substantially.

Skyler has multiple different exterior areas designed for entertaining. Each has plenty to offer guests. The beach area has excellent access to the sea as well as its own bar. The garage found there can house a tender as well as two PWCs. On the flying bridge’s after end there is a handcrafted teak dining table with steel and glass details that is a full six feet, six inches in diameter. The table was a customized request by the owner, and the builder says it makes the area one of the most sought after on the whole yacht. Forward on this deck there are oversized sunpads and a pool. The yacht also has a sundeck with a bar, sofas and a dining area.

Skyler has accommodations for up to 10 guests in five staterooms, including a master suite, three more similarly sized guest staterooms and a twin cabin with an additional Pullman berth. A crew’s quarters for seven further ensures that all guests are well taken care of during their stay.

The yacht’s interior was designed by Redman Whiteley Dixon, in collaboration with Benetti’s in-house design team. The aim here was for a simple contemporary feel with high-gloss ebony, Thai wood and Tanganyika frisé wood. Lots of leather, as well as nickel accents help imbue the boat with a strong, masculine ambience.

All told this is a boat that should represent Benetti quite well while at sea, owing to her admirable performance, focus on entertaining and interior elegance. Keep an eye out for her in a harbor near you.
