Alpha-Centauri Launches Hydroplane Line

The striking boats will serve primarily as tenders and toys.

If you’re out on the water looking to make a memorable first impression, the Alpha-Centauri hydroplane line is a great place to start. The 27 foot, 2 inch matte-black vessel looks like it should belong to Batman.

The boat rides atop the waves on foils, and can hit a scintillating 60 knots thanks to an optional engine package that has 2000 horses, and is also coupled to a Scott twin-stage sprint jet. In other words, get ready to hold on tight.

The boat also has four bucket seats, a Rockford Fosgate sound system and a digital dashboard. Alpha-Centauri itself describes these boats as “impractical, inefficient, and terrifying.” Again, their words, not ours.

The company is now taking orders for 2017, with prices starting right around $150,000. It will be interesting to see if such an unorthodox build can find a place in the market. Of course, with the way this thing looks, it will also be interesting to see, period.
